Members
Charlie Friel: Charlie is the longest serving member of No Mean Co and our very first octogenarian with a string of credits too numerous to mention. Though not one of the founder members, Charlie has been in the company since the beginnings of the company and has enjoyed a great deal of success in his numerous roles. He delights audiences by stealing the show with his comic cameo roles.
Calum Cormack: Calum's credits include roles in 'Parliament of Women', 'The Hypochondriac', 'The Man Who Came to Dinner', 'Paras Over The Barras', 'Millennium Bargains', 'The Government Inspector', 'The Crucible' and 'The Hunt for Red Willie'. He recently celebrated success in his directorial debut with a highly acclaimed production of Mike Leigh's 'Abigail's Party' and co-directed 'Never Come Back', the one act play written by another company member and performed as part of Amdramtastic. He returned to board treading with his role as Dr Emerson.
Gerry Campbell: One of our longest standing members Gerry's roles both onstage and behind the scenes have been many and varied beginning with early productions such as 'Arsenic and Old Lace' right through to more recent productions such as 'The Hypochondriac', 'The Government Inspector' and 'The Man Who Came To Dinner'. Some of Gerry's strongest performances have been seen in 'The Crucible' and 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui'. She is now taking what we hope will be a brief absence from the stage to concentrate on personal commitments and backstage work.
Ian Alexander: Although he has only recently joined us, Ian has been on the scene since the early days of No Mean Co when he supported his wife Maureen who was among the founder members. Although Maureen is no longer with us Ian continues to join the group for our weekly meetings and is currently our treasurer.
Gary Flood: Following a highly enjoyable performance in 'Red Noses' Gary graduated from the Cumbernauld Youth Theatre into No Mean Co. Since then he was put on trial in 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui' and worked behind the scenes in 'Abigail's Party' as well as being Play-it-again-Bam in 'Aggie's Anniversary'.
'Wee' Jo Grant: Wee Jo never tires of stepping into the limelight and has enjoyed many roles in productions of 'Shorts In The Dark', 'The Cheviot the Stag and the Black Black Oil', 'The Government Inspector', 'The Hypochondriac', 'Millennium Bargains', 'The Man Who Came To Dinner', 'Shakers Re-stirred', 'The Crucible', 'Simon's Progress' (The Mysteries), 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui' and resplendant in blue hair as Deprava, Intergalactic Villainess in 'May The Farce Be With You'. Jo now adds to her credits with her most recent roles as Ward Sister in 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?' and with an orgasmic performance in 'The Vagina Monolgues'.
'Big' Jo O'Donnell: In her time Big Jo has spend considerable effort researching productions and working behind the scenes in addition to her roles in productions like 'The Government Inspector', 'The Hypochondriac', 'Millennium Bargains', 'Shakers Re-stirred', 'Simon's Progress' (The Mysteries), 'May The Farce Be With You' and 'Whose life is it anyway?' She shone as the determined Aggie in 'Aggie's Anniversary' earning praise from none other than the playwright himself, James Barclay.
Paul Howitt: Paul joined No Mean Co with a broken leg and has enjoyed several acclaimed performances since. His credits include leading roles in 'Someday, One Day' opposite his wife Linda, 'The Hunt for Red Willie', 'Paras Over The Barras', 'Abigail's Party' and more recently 'Never Come Back' and 'Whose life is it anyway?'. That said he still shivers before every performance when someone says 'Break-a-leg!'.
Linda Howitt: Linda's first performance was in 'The Government Inspector'. She has since had roles in 'The Hypochondriac', 'Millennium Bargains', 'The Hunt For Red Willie', 'The Man Who Came To Dinner', 'The Crucible', 'Someday, One Day' and 'May The Farce Be With You'. Linda has also worked behind the scenes as director and stage manager and particularly enjoys working with music and sound effects. In addition to maintaining the webstage, working on posters and publicity and keeping up with her job as company secretary, Linda co-directed 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?' and was seen most recently in 'The Vagina Monologues'.
Jim Howson: He's Alive!! We've yet to see Jim finish an entire show. Every character he's played with us so far seems to come to an untimely end. From his powerful debut as mobster Giri, shot during 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui' followed by an arresting role as Lawrence in 'Abigail's Party' to being run over as the hilarious mugger in 'Aggie's Anniversary'. Jim is also a keen member of Stirling and Bridge of Allan Operatic Society along with wife Amanda (Marketing Manager for Cumbernauld Theatre) where he recently honed his talent for onstage demise in Oliver. We're sure that one day he'll survive a show. We're just not very sure when. Well, he is rather good at those 'final' scenes.
Ann MacEwan: Although more than content to work behind the scenes on directing and stage managing, Anne particularly enjoys working with lighting and effects. She also has a great deal of talent onstage as has been seen in productions of 'The Government Inspector' and 'The Man Who Came To Dinner' and 'Never Come Back'. Anne directed the hilarious 'Hunt For Red Willie' and stepped back into her directors shoes for 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?' and 'The Vagina Monologues' which she also took part in.
Angela Milton: Angela's history with NMC spans more than a decade of productions with roles both on and off stage. More recently, as well as directing 'The Government Inspector', Angela has been seen in such productions as 'The Crucible', 'Shaker's Re-stirred', 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui' and as the demon hostess Beverly in 'Abigail's Party'. She is currently taking a short break from the stage to concentrate on behind the scenes work.
Anne Gray: There's a defector in our midst! Anne joined NMC after a number of years with Apex Players (another long standing amateur group in Cumbernauld). She has since tackled roles in 'The Hunt For Red Willie', 'May The Farce Be With You', 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui', 'Abigail's Party' and 'Whose life is it anyway?' Anne also wrote and directed the comedies 'Never Come Back' and 'One Night With You' as part of Amdramtastic in association with Apex Players and A.C.E. Productions.
Dorothy Roberts: Dorothy is another member with a long history in the theatre. As a member of amateur theatre for over two decades Dorothy is well used to treading the boards and has shone in a number of roles for NMC, not least in 'The Government Inspector', 'Millennium Bargains', 'After Magritte', 'Paras Over The Barras', 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui', 'Aggie's Anniversary' and 'Whose life is it anyway?'.
Tam Sutherland: Originally a member of the company in the days of 'Arsenic and Old Lace', Tam recently returned to help behind the scenes with 'Someday, One Day'. Since then he's been kept busy in productions of 'The Hunt For Red Willie', 'After Magritte', 'Paras Over The Barras', 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui' and 'Whose life is it anyway?'.
Duncan Weir: From his debut in 'The Cheviot, The Stag and The Black, Black Oil', Duncan has gone on to take roles in 'The Government Inspector', 'The Hypochondriac', 'The Crucible', 'The Man Who Came To Dinner', 'Someday, One Day', 'Paras Over The Barras' and 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui' to name only a few. Duncan excelled himself most recently as quadraplegic sculptor Ken Harrison in 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?'
Angelique Watt: Angelique's first role for No Mean Co in 'The Man Who Came to Dinner' and 'The Real Inspector Hound', soon led to her directorial debut with the much enjoyed 'Shakers Re-stirred' convincing audiences that No Mean Co were not just about large cast ensemble plays. Since then she has gone on to direct 'Paras Over The Barras' as well as acting in 'May The Farce Be With You', 'The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui', 'Never Come Back', 'One Night With You'. Angelique is also the current Chairperson for No Mean Co.
Karen Pender: Karen has only recently joined the company and played the Gypsy in Aggie's Anniversary and Student Nurse Kay Sadler in 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?'.
Jon McLean: Jon's first credit was working backstage on 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?' and he is currently rehearsing for his first on-stage role in 'One Night With You'.
Emma Thomas: Emma also worked backstage on 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?' and took her first role in 'The Vagina Monologues'.
Evelyn Coogan: Evelyn's first role with NMC was in 'The Vagina Monologues'.
